Nissan Steering in a New Direction

Our favorite automaker, Nissan, is continuously raising the bar when it comes to innovative offerings for models in thenew Nissan lineup. And most recently, this can be said of its brand-new steering system which promises to change the way we drive.

Specifically, this new driving system allows for independent operation of the vehicle's tire angles and steering inputs. Additionally, it senses the driver's intentions and directs the tires, accordingly, using electronic transmissions. This results is a much more responsive drive, In contrast, conventional steering systems control the tires though a mechanical link.

Another difference between the new and old steering systems is an integrated stability enhancing system. This system consists of a camera positioned above the rearview mirror and it records information about the road on which the vehicle is traveling; including lane direction and vehicle direction. If at any time, the system registers that vehicle may be going off course, it will take over for the driver, and automatically force the tires in the opposite direction and back on track.

Nissan anticipates this new technology to be very useful for tired drivers by taking some of the responsibility away.

So, what if this system should fail?

Well, luckily this isn't really an option, thanks to ECUs (electronic control units) which lend themselves to the system's success through countless backups; if one fails another will take action.
